Can’t install Windows Updates on WSUS Server

When WSUS is installed on a Windows Server 2016 (or higher), it may happen that the server cannot obtain updates from itself as a source and therefore reports the error code “0x80246010”.

The issue can be resolved either via a GPO or via a registry entry.

GPO

Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Components\Windows Update

Add the value “Set the alternate download server” in “Specify intranet Microsoft update service location”.
